Vanessa Vanderhoek

Nutritionist

Vanessa’s journey to becoming a Functional Nutritionist was by accident. Her daughter was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease (juvenile idiopathic arthritis) at the age of two. Vanessa delved in to study the science around food and nutrition, and the impact it has on the systems in the body.

This led her to discover incredible results. Her daughter regained her health and has been in remission since June 2020. She can now run, jump, climb, hop with the swelling in her knee and digestive complaints completely eradicated.

Through this journey, Vanessa discovered the power of nutrition, a healthy gut and the life-changing and positive impact it has on true health and wellbeing. She loves learning and continues her further education, currently completing a Masters of Nutrition.

Vanessa helps clients address long-standing conditions via a functional medicine nutrition approach and addressing the underlying causes of their symptoms. She has a special interest in the gut microbiome, epigenetics, and autoimmune conditions

Vanessa is empathic, prioritises taking time to join the dots and uncover “what’s going on in there”, so she can design a bio-individual functional nutrition plan that will fit within your lifestyle and meet your goals. She is highly skilled in helping people to overcome their digestive issues, improve their energy and mood, and regain their health and wellbeing.

FAQs

Functional medicine nutrition has three focus areas – your genetics, your environment (nutrition, hydration, exercise, stress and more), and your gut health. In our consultation we will explore all three elements to work through identifying and treating where you need support.

Studies indicate that up to 80% of our immune health is in our gut. Not only that, we convert a lot of hormones in our gut, and we also absorb our nutrients through our gut. Too many bad bugs (opportunistic bacteria), not enough good bugs, parasites, worms, or a damaged mucosal lining (leaky gut) can contribute to poor health, brain fog, low energy and additional symptoms.

You will receive an intake form to complete prior to meeting with Vanessa. She will go through a very thorough health and family history with you, whilst also establishing clear goals with you. Vanessa will start helping you put the pieces of your symptom puzzle together, providing you with some clear recommendations, recipes, and healthy habit tips. If required, she will provide you with referrals for functional testing.
